The recently concluded GITEX Global 2024 further elevated UAE’s position as a global epicenter of AI innovation. This year’s event, themed as Global Collaboration to Forge Future of Artificial Intelligence Economy oversaw an attendance of 6,500 exhibitors, 1,800 startups and 1,200 investors from 180 countries. The GITEX Global 2024 event featured the world’s leading tech firms, experts, researchers and academicians.
Participants from more than 35 European countries were also present at the GITEX tech event which was the highest compared to the previous year. Most importantly, over 1,450 startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) were part of the event. In addition, the world’s largest tech event held at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) witnessed a record 40% increase in international visitors compared to the previous years.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Takes Center Stage
With exhibitors showcasing AI-powered autonomous vehicles integrated with advanced AI safety and navigation systems, AI was in the spotlight. These vehicles include proposals for flying cars representing advancements in urban mobility. Likewise, Xpanceo exhibited smart lenses for glaucoma detection and color blindness correction, while Letinar displayed smart glasses providing real-time patient data. The Letinar’s smart glasses provide live biometric data including heart rate and blood pressure and images of patient’s ultrasound or MRI to surgeons.
Lenovo Transformative Solutions and Oracle Collaborations
Lenovo showcased a new range of cloud solutions and hardware, all integrated with cutting-edge AI capabilities. These AI solutions can improve business operations streamlining processes for companies globally. Meanwhile, Oracle announced collaborations with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment and Mashreq Bank using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to facilitate the former’s housing strategy and the latter’s global expansion.
Innovative Approach of Huawei
Similarly, Huawei outlined its vision of building an intelligent world centered around industrial digitalization and AI to enhance productivity and transform societies. With its innovative approach, Huawei aims to make ICT infrastructure accessible, user-friendly and scalable through ease of access and use. The company displayed innovative solutions for digital transformation at GITEX 2024 focusing on campus management, data centers and WAN technologies.

AI in the Telecommunication Sector – Ericsson and e& (Etisalat)
The tech event also saw an MoU signed between Ericsson and e& (formerly Etisalat) to explore AI-powered autonomous networks to enhance the latter’s operational efficiency and contribute to environmental sustainability. Moreover, the partnership aligns with the UAE’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030.
Global AI Market Size
According to estimates, the global artificial intelligence market size will be valued at nearly US$620 billion in 2024 and it is projected to cross US$2.7 trillion by 2032 with a CAGR of 20%. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region will see the fastest spending growth in AI primarily driven by the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The four key industries absorbing the MENA region’s AI expenditure include banking, retail, manufacturing and government service sectors.

Through the GITEX Global event, the UAE’s leadership has signaled its intention to make the country the world’s most future-ready nation regarding the global digital and technology landscape.
