UAE National Sports Strategy 2031 to Boost Sports Sector Growth

Last month, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed, VP and PM of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai approved the National Sports Strategy 2031. The strategy aims to advance the role of UAE’s sports sector in driving the nation’s prosperity and wellbeing. Such initiatives go hand in hand with overall UAE GDP growth initiatives which aims to diversify to non-oil sectors.

The decision was hailed by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the President of the UAE National Olympic Committee (NOC).

Sheikh Ahmed lauded the strategy, which outlines 17 forthcoming initiatives. These initiatives aim to foster the development of sports professionals and identify talented athletes within educational institutions. Furthermore, the initiatives aim to enhance sports education methods, refine the regulatory framework governing the sports sector. Likewise, increasing the percentage of the UAE’s population engaging in various sports to 71% was high on agenda.

Moreover, Sheikh Ahmed highlighted that the efforts to cultivate sports professionals are aligned with the NOC’s mission. This includes preparing adept athletes for major regional and international competitions, adhering to the criteria established by the Committee.

Sheikh Ahmed further emphasized that the Committee’s endeavors will play a pivotal role in elevating the individuals’ sports population to 71% by 2031. The NOC has initiated numerous programs to encourage sports participation within the community.

On similar lines, Dubai Sports Council announced that gyms and fitness centers will be rated in Dubai going forward. This council approved a classification system to enhance professionalism in the fitness industry as well as raise service quality. Dubai’s gyms and fitness centers will be evaluated based on star-rating, with five being the highest.
