International Sports & Fitness (ISF) Middle East is the region’s dedicated business event that focuses on promoting the sports event and other affiliated sectors such fitness, fitness equipments and medical / healthcare in the region. With Middle East’s Sport & Fitness sector recognized as a fast growing sector, the event holds immense significance to the promotion of Sports and Fitness sector in the region.

The 2nd edition of International Sports & Fitness (ISF) Middle East concluded at Address Dubai Marina from 2-3 May 2018. Around 6,300 visitors participated in the event and more than 420 brands exhibited their products. The event played an important role in gathering of buyers, professionals and decision makers from Sports & Fitness industry around the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to network, establish their brands, exchange knowledge and conduct businesses. Conference and Talk shows were also arranged during the two days event focusing on Facilities Management, Sports & Fitness Integration and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accredited Nutrition for Optimal Health & Sports.

The IFS Middle East was inaugurated by H.E Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary General, Dubai Sports Council. The event highlighted several major trends in the Sports, Fitness and Healthcare industry.

The New Face of Health Club Flooring

Strength Training the Combat Athlete

CEO  & Founder of Carbon IV, Eloy Rodriguez presented with a summary of the common weak links found with international medalling combat athletes from sports ranging from MMA to BJJ, the two fastest growing sport in the Middle East. They also displayed the techniques that Carbon IV has developed on how a combat athlete should train in a weights facility in order to optimally supplement their sport specific training.

Orthopedic Emergencies in the Gym

Dr. Kris Lewonowski Chief Spine and Total Joint Surgeon at Novomed Speciality Clinic UAE, discussed about the orthopaedic emergencies that might occur at Gym and Fitness training facilities. Signs and symptoms of the emergencies and what to watch out for were discussed. The different medications and recovery treatments for these injuries were also discussed during the event.

Investment Opportunities in UAE and Dubai’s Fitness & Sports Sector

UAE is becoming a recognized sporting destination in the Middle East region. Dubai in particular conducts 400 sporting events and has seen over 465,000 local and international sporting professionals participate in sporting events in 2017. The Health & Fitness industry in UAE is considered as one of the fastest growing industry with an estimated market value of in excess of Dh 1.4 billion (USD $380 million).

The UAE’s health and fitness industry is further projected to grow by 10 per cent annually. Currently, more than 564,000 residents are registered in as many as 800 fitness centers across UAE which is estimated to be 6 per cent of the overall UAE population (9.4 Million – 2017). The numbers are expected to grow by near around 10 per cent annually.

On the other hand, Dubai’s healthcare sector has been growing at a steady rate with near around 12 per cent growth annually. The Emirate currently generates revenue of Dh 1 billion from the healthcare sector that is expected to increase to Dh 2.6 billion (USD $710 million) by 2020. With the initiatives to promote Medical tourism within the Emirate, Dubai focuses on positioning itself as a global health tourism destination and currently attracts more than 326,000 health tourists on an annual basis generating a revenue of Dh 1 billion (USD $270 million). The revenue is expected to increase to Dh 2.6 billion (USD $710 million) by 2020.

Considering the rise in sports and fitness culture in country, the growing fitness industry and the government initiatives to attract medical tourist, UAE and Dubai provides an ideal platform for investment in Sports & Fitness sector.
