With a sharp increase in cyber security spending on a global scale, the market is evolving at a rapid phase. A research conducted by GMB cyber security suggested that cyber security breach on Gulf-based companies increased from 28% (2016) to 41% (2018) in two years. In-order to overcome the threat the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region is spending heavily in cyber security which is expected to reach Dh 127 billion (USD $34.6 billion) by 2023, at a CAGR of 15.6 per cent. The Gulf Information Security Conference (GISEC) focuses on creating awareness of the cyber threats by providing solutions to secure companies from such threats by bringing together digital innovators, decision makers, consumers and tech enthusiasts from across the region and beyond to discuss the latest tech innovations, cyber security trends and smart solutions.


The 7th edition of GISEC concluded at Dubai World Trade Centre from 1-3 May 2018. Around 7,350 technologists, innovators, decision makers and consumers from IT security, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence sectors. More than 120 brands and exhibitors across 80 countries showcased the latest products and services to meet the growing demand for critical online security and AI solutions.

The GISEC was inaugurated by Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai. There were several major innovations that were highlighted during the three day expo.

Predictive Security Cloud – IT Security

Carbon Black showcased their Cb Predictive Security Cloud, a converged endpoint protection platform that is aims to deliver next-generation security and IT operations services through the cloud. This ensures that the product and services are delivered in an effective and timely manner.

Cyber resilient Email and data storage by Mimecast Limited

Mimecast highlighted the continuous challenges that organisations face in defending against malicious attachments, dangerous file types, impersonation attacks and spam. The company showcased its full-range of advanced email security and data protection services, including new enhancements to targeted threat protection, they also highlighted the importance of building a cyber-resilience strategy in an evolving cyber threat landscape.

Latest Active Deception Technology by Fidelis Cyber security

Fidelis cyber security displayed their latest Deception Module that delivers a deception defence platform which extends visibility and detection deep into the network, learns new attacker techniques and better defends organisations’ critical data assets.

Cyber Security & Internet of Things – Dubai

A research conducted by GMB cyber security suggested that cyber security breach on Gulf-based companies increased from 28% (2016) to 41% (2018) in two years. In-order to overcome the threat the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region is investing heavily in the cyber security. The spending is expected to reach Dh 127 billion (USD $34.6 billion) by 2023, at a growth rate of 15.6 per cent. Despite the increasing threats, only 31 per cent of the regional organizations were concerned about detection and response to attacks.

A survey conducted among the attendees of the conference suggested the following

  • 62% of the companies stated that they were willing to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) for securing their organizations, which showed willingness in deploying new technologies
  • 81% of the organizations preferred having their security operations on premise
  • 32% of the companies are unaware of how long intrusions are able to remain undetected

Furthermore, constant innovations and new economic opportunities emanating in Dubai, UAE, is expected to increase AI adoption in the country, which will contribute to around Dh 352 billion contribute (USD $96 billion) UAE’s economy by 2030. This is also expected to increase the demand for cyber security in the region.
